Zambia’s Under-20 Women’s National Team wrapped up their 2025 COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship group campaign at the Region 5 Youth Games with a dominant 8-0 victory over Eswatini.
Having already secured qualification to the semifinals after just two matches, today’s result sees Zambia finish top of Group B in commanding style, without conceding a single goal in the group stage.
The victory sets up a mouth-watering semifinal clash with Group B runners-up Botswana, scheduled for Friday.
Zambia’s ruthless display against Eswatini was the perfect conclusion to an impressive group campaign that reinforced their status as tournament favourites.
Striker Ruth Mukoma was the star of the show, netting five goals, while Grace Phiri, Bwalya Chileshe, and Lweendo Hanongo also got on the scoresheet for the defending champions.
Mukoma now leads the tournament’s top scorers chart, surpassing teammate Bwalya Chileshe (4 goals) and South Africa’s Hope Lesotlo (3).
Meanwhile, Namibia edged Botswana 2-1 in the final Group A fixture on Tuesday to finish top of their group. The hosts will now face South Africa, the Group B runners-up, in the other semifinal. 2-1 in the final Group A encounter on Tuesday, ensuring they finished top of the group. As a result, the hosts will face South Africa, runners-up from Group B.
