Zambian forward Peter Chikola has shared his reaction to being included in the Cadiz CF senior team for the first time in their Spanish Segunda Division matchday squad.
The former Kafue Celtics player was an unused substitute as Cadiz defeated Granada 1-0 in Week 31 of the league, as they continued their push for a promotional playoff spot.
Currently, in ninth place, Cadiz CF is seven points behind the top six. That position would secure them a playoff spot for promotion to La Liga next season.
Although Chikola did not make an appearance in his first call-up, he remains focused on earning his debut. He revealed that he has been training with the senior squad and expressed his delight that his hard work has been recognized by head coach Gaizka Garitano.
“When they called me to train with the senior team, I was so happy…. But it has been almost months now, and I am just training with them,” said Chikola.
“There is a difference with the level of the league I was playing in with Cadiz B. …. And it’s good for me to experience some high-level football. I’m excited about this challenge to prove myself. I want to work hard and give my best each and every day in training.”
Chikola, Mwepu link up
The 22-year-old has also joined Chipolopolo striker Francesco Mwepu, who was part of the matchday squad for Cadiz CF. Both players were unused substitutes.
Chikola revealed that Mwepu is a close friend with whom he spends much of his time.
“It feels so good to be with your countrymate on the same team; most of the time we talk, and we spend more time together,” Chikola said.
“I’m looking forward to making my debut. The fans should keep on supporting me and believing in me,” added Chikola, who has played 20 matches for the Cadiz B this season.
