Zambian midfielder Benson Sakala has signed with Czech top-flight side Bohemians Praha 1905 as a free agent, following his departure from FK Mladá Boleslav after the expiry of his contract this month.
Bohemians Praha 1905 confirmed the signing of the experienced defensive midfielder, although the duration of the contract was not disclosed.
The 28-year-old joined FK Mladá Boleslav in 2023, making 45 appearances in the Czech top division and scoring two goals.
On Monday, Sakala posted a farewell message to FK Mladá Boleslav on Facebook, writing:
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank FK Mladá Boleslav for the opportunity I had to grow my career at this great club. I will carry within me some great memories having played in the league and going all the way through to the Europa Conference League group stage. It was a wonderful experience.”
Sakala’s European journey began in 2021 when he joined FK Viktoria Žižkov, before moving to Příbram in 2022 and later earning a move to Boleslav in 2023. His steady progression through the Czech football ranks culminated in helping Boleslav reach European competition during the 2023/24 season where they played in the UEFA Conference League.
At the international level, Sakala has been named in Avram Grant’s 25-man provisional Chipolopolo squad for the upcoming FIFA international window in June.
Zambia will face Sudan and Tunisia on June 6 and 10, respectively, as part of their preparations for future competitive fixtures.
