Zambian Players Abroad Weekend Wrap | Mafwenta Scores First Goal for Metalist

Mafwenta scored his first goal for Metalist, and Sakala and Kangwa both increased their tally over the weekend.

Fashion Sakala came up clutch at the weekend, scoring a crucial goal in Al Fayha’s 2-0 victory in the Saudi Pro League. The visitors clinched a momentous victory against fellow relegation candidates Al Raed to go five points clear of the drop zone.

Midfielder Kings Kangwa scored his ninth league goal of the campaign in Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s 4-0 obliteration of Ironi Tiberias. He has now scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 24 games in all competitions.

Notching his first goal since moving to Ukraine, Golden Mafwenta was on target for Metalist 1925, albeit in a club friendly. The defensive midfielder beat the opposition goalkeeper with a stunning strike from outside the box as his side triumphed 2-1.

Joseph Sabobo starts, Daka makes cameo

Patson Daka played the last ten minutes of Leicester City’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the English Premier League. Meanwhile, his 2017 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations-winning teammate Edward Chilufya came off the bench for Midtjylland in Denmark.

Over in Switzerland, Joseph Sabobo Banda was in FC Zurich II’s starting XI in the Promotion League. Miguel Chaiwa was summoned from the bench in the 66th minute. His BSC Young Boys, who lost 1-0 to FC Lugano.

Micho starts Obino Chishala and Ricky Banda together, Mphande keeps cleansheet

Former Chipolopolo coach Milutin Sredojevic started both Obino Chisala and Ricky Banda in Al Merreikh’s 1-1 draw with Gendrim. In the Israeli second tier, Gift Mphande marshalled in defense for Hapoel Rishon Lezion, keeping his fifth cleansheet of the season.

Kingstone Mutandwa, Francisco Mwepu and Frankie Musonda were unused substitutes for Cagliari Calcio, Cadiz CF, and Ayr United, respectively.

Joseph Liteta undroppable in Italy, Benson Sakala out

Fresh from winning the Player of the Match award the previous weekend, Joseph Liteta started his fourth league match in a row for Cagliari U20. Mlada Boleslav were without Benson Sakala during the weekend as they lost 3-1 to Slovan Liberec.

Clatous Chama took part in Young Africans’ 6-1 humbling of KMC FC as a substitute while Kennedy Musonda was unavailable. In Spain, Peter Chikola was a starter for Cadiz B in the Segunda Division. His compatriot, Twizard Mulenga, came off the bench in the same game.

Lubambo Musonda and Lameck Banda were not fit enough to make the matchday squads for 1. FC Magdeburg and US Lecce, respectively.
