Both male and female Zambian players got minutes for their respective clubs last weekend, with Chisala and Barbra Banda making headlines.

Copper Queens defender Lushomo Mweemba scored the second goal in Hakkarigucu Spor’s 3-0 win over Trabzonspor, doubling her goalscoring total for the 2024-25 season.

In the Turkish women’s topflight, she and compatriot Martha Tembo kept a clean sheet for the second time in seven matches.

Just days before a tasty Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) qualifier against Ivory Coast, Lameck Banda exited the pitch with an injury 20 minutes into a Serie A clash between US Lecce and Empoli. His would be replacement in the Copper Bullets starting XI, Joseph Sabobo Banda, who has been playing for his club’s reserve team was not named in FC Zurich’s matchday squad this weekend.

Meanwhile, Kingstone Mutandwa, who was left out of the Chipolopolo squad due to injury, made the squad for Cagliari in their 3-3 draw with AC Milan. However, the striker was an unused substitute for the fourth successive match.

Prisca Chilufya, Kundananji bow out of playoffs, Barbra Banda progresses.

It was the end of the road for Copper Queens’ duo Prisca Chilufya and Racheal Kundananji in the playoffs as FC Juarez and Bay FC both suffered 2-1 losses in Mexico and the United States, respectively.

For Barbra Banda, her heroic brace gave Orlando Pride a ticket to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) playoff semifinals, where they will face Temwa Chawinga’s KC Current.

Gift Siame debuts in Spain

Zambia U20 midfielder Gift Siame officially made his debut for Leganés U19 in the División de Honor Juvenil, taking to the pitch as an 84th-minute substitute against CD Móstoles.

His ex-Atletico Lusaka FC teammate Joseph Liteta started for Cagliari U20, who lost 2-0 to AC Milan U20 in the Primavera 1.

Francisco Mwepu was a late substitute for Cadiz in their 2-2 draw with Mirandes while Peter Chikola made the starting XI for Cadiz B, who were thumped 4-0 by Villanovense.

Obino Chisala scores again, Daka close to Leicester City return
