Zambia U-17 national team captain Jonathan Kalimina is set to attend a two-week trial at Swedish club Häcken FC, his club Kafue Celtic has announced.
The defender was scouted during the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he featured for the Chiparamba Academy Select U-17 side. The team exited the tournament at the round of 16 after a 1-0 loss to Contelao of Peru.
“We are proud to announce that our very own Jonathan Kalimina has earned a two-week trial opportunity with Häcken FC in Sweden following his impressive performance at the Gothia Cup,” Kafue Celtic said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Kalimina was instrumental in Zambia’s campaign at the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, captaining the young Chipolopolo Boys to a historic qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar in November.
There are also reports that English club Wolves and Swedish giants Malmö FF are monitoring several other Zambian players—Nthasilwe Malupande, Caleb Musonda, Chama Chansa, Emmanuel Mbuti, Blessings Sinyangwe, Victor Simazuwo, and Joseph Zulu—who also impressed during the Gothia Cup.
