Former Nkana defender Alick Sichinga says Clatous Chama’s recent form at Simba SC has put him firmly in contention for a return to the Chipolopolo squad.
Chama has been absent from the national team setup, with his last Chipolopolo call-up coming during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON).
The midfielder has since missed several national team matches but is currently enjoying fine form at Simba, where he has registered three goals and two assists in his last five games.
Speaking in an interview, Sichinga said the midfielder has continued to demonstrate consistency and experience at club level.
“Chama is one player who has continued to show quality at club level in the last few games. He deserves to be considered for a Chipolopolo call-up when we regroup,” Sichinga said.
He said the 34-year-old remains one of Zambia’s most creative players and can still contribute significantly to the national team setup.
“Experience is very important in football, and Chama brings that. He understands pressure situations and can help guide some of the younger players in the squad,” he added.
The former Lusaka Dynamos and Zesco United midfielder was once a regular feature in the Chipolopolo squad but has recently fallen out of favor with the national team selectors.
Sichinga said national team selection should be based on current form and performance.
“National team selection should always reward players who are performing well at club level”. he said.
