Zambia National Team legend Kennedy Mweene has commented on the ongoing comparisons between Toaster Nsabata and Lawrence Mulenga following the Chipolopolo’s victory over Ivory Coast last Saturday.

Zambia defeated the Elephants 3-0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations after an eight-year absence.

The Chipolopolo Boys moved to the top of Group H with 12 points after an own goal by Serge Aurier, a Patson Daka strike, and a Klings Kangwa excellent finish.

League-winning Power Dynamos shot-stopper Lawrence Mulenga made his first debut appearance in a Competitive game for the National team and won the hearts of many fans, keeping a clean sheet in that crucial match.

The last time he started a match for the Chipolopolo was on September 23, 2022, in Bamako when Zambia lost 1-0 to Mali in a friendly match.

The 24-year-old has received praise from pundits, fans, and legends alike for his heroic saves against the Elephants.

Nsabata or Mulenga ? Mweene answers

In an exclusive interview with BolaNews, Chipolopolo legend, and 2012 AFCON-winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene advised Mulenga to stay humble and learn how to deal with the spotlight.

Mweene stated that the Power Dynamos goal custodian still has a long way to go in his career.

“I won’t change my statement; we have capable goalkeepers in Zambia,” he said.”We need to support him. I think I was impressed with his performance, but he needs to improve. There is a lot to do. He should remain grounded, and he must be teachable.

The Mamelodi Sundowns player/coach added: “I know him he is a good boy. There is a difference between qualifiers and the Afcon tournament. I met him and spoke to him when they came to South Africa. I told him to remain humble and they should know how to deal with fame.”

Meanwhile, Mweene urged Toaster Nsabata, who was dropped from the matchday squad last weekend, and Mulenga to ignore social media commentators’ comparisons and focus on complimenting and supporting one another.

“Whoever is playing, you have to support them; they need to complement each other and not compete. That’s what you expect when you do well with the National Team. It’s not right to compare it to the fans opinion, but that should encourage you to work extra hard. I cannot compare the two of them because they are talented differently,” he said.
