Chipolopolo midfielder Kings Kangwa says the team is focused on repeating the strong performance they showed last year when they beat Ivory Coast 3-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
With another showdown against the Elephants coming up this Friday for the Morocco 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Kangwa believes Zambia has what it takes to succeed.
“We are trying our best to repeat like we did. We have to work hard; we are playing against a very good team,” Kangwa said.
A win over Ivory Coast, who defeated Zambia 2-0 in Abidjan this September, would secure Zambia’s place in Morocco. Kangwa feels the team is ready to give their all, especially with the home crowd behind them.
“I think we are ready; we are looking forward to the game. I think everything is in our hands. We just have to work hard as a team and give everything; we are playing at home.”
Zambia has faced some tough times this year, leading some fans to question the team’s ability to go toe-to-toe with a powerhouse like Ivory Coast. Kangwa, however, isn’t fazed by the doubts.
“It’s normal to doubt—that’s why they are fans. For us, I think everyone is ready,” he shared, expressing confidence in his teammates.
