Zambian playmaker Kings Kangwa is topping the charts for the most creative players in the Mozzart SuperLiga this season.

Despite being linked with a move away from Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezd) this summer, Kangwa has continued to excel for the Serbian champions. The Chipolopolo midfielder amassed 12 goals and six assists in all club competitions last term.

As of the 2023–24 league season, Kangwa’s creativity in the middle of the park remains manifest. Alongside his two assists this season, the Copper Bullet has created the most chances in the Serbian topflight so far (11).

He shares the top spot with his Ivorian teammate, Jean-Phillipe Krasso. The midfielder also comes out on top for the most big chances created (3) in the SuperLiga alongside four other counterparts.

Kangwa’s creative genius, passing range, dribbling ability, and knack for scoring goals are clearly why he is under the radar of Nottingham Forest, Celtic, Fiorentina, Lille, and other European clubs.

The playmaking maestro signed for Red Star Belgrade from Russia’s Arsenal Tula last summer in a deal worth €1.5 million.

Red Star claimed a resounding 3-0 victory over Spartak Subotica on Saturday, in which Kangwa’s shot resulted in the third goal. The midfielder successfully guided his shot past the goalkeeper before the crossbar denied his effort. Fortunately, the ball deflected off the shot-stopper’s back and ended up in the back of the net.

Crvena Zvezda comfortably sits at the top of the Serbian SuperLiga standings with 12 points from four matches, scoring 16 goals and only conceding one.

The Serbian champions have their sights set on the UEFA Champions League group stage, where Kangwa’s creative genius could come in handy.

Regarding his side’s forthcoming European journey, Crvena Zvezda gaffer Barak Bahar said, “We have enough time until the Champions League to prepare. It is important for us that the players are healthy and fit.”
