The Zambia National Team returned to Zambia today for final preparations ahead of the Group H Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Ivory Coast on June 17 at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The team camped in South Africa for a week-long training ahead of the crucial match this weekend which could see them book a ticket for the AFCON finals for the first time since 2015.
Meanwhile, Scottish-based Ayr United defender Frankie Musonda who has appeared in all four previous matches in the qualifiers will be hoping to keep up his good form in the national colors.
Speaking to FAZ media Musonda anticipates a tough game against Ivory Coast but believes the team is ready to fight.
“It’s always good to get back with the team and I am excited to come and play for my home Country. When I come it’s always a great experience to see the fans can’t wait to see them on Saturday,” he said.
He added: “We are working hard we are putting in a lot of hours to prepare for this game, it’s going to be a tough game, but we really want to compete and do well. The team and everybody else is feeling very positive and with the fans behind us anything is possible we can get a win for Zambia on Saturday. We hope to get good support on Saturday.”
Zambia only need a point to qualify ahead of third-placed Comoros Island who they will play in their final match of the group.
Ivory Coast who already qualified as host for the 2023 AFCON edition top Group H with nine points while Lesotho is at rock bottom with only a point.
