Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association (CSFA) chairman Yotam Mwanza has described the US$ 10,000 fine imposed on Zambia by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as regrettable.

On Wednesday, Zambia learnt that CAF had imposed a sanction against Chipolopolo after a pitch invasion in Zambia’s 3-2 win over Sierra Leone at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on September 10.

Zambia has been fined US$20,000 but half of that amount is suspended and will only be paid if the incident reoccurs.

In an interview, Mwanza said the fine should be a wake-up call to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to beef up security whenever there are international games.

“It is quite unfortunate that CAF has come hard on us as a nation; as fans, we must retrain ourselves when playing at home.

“This is something that we all know that FIFA and CAF does not entertain now that we have been fined; it is a wakeup call to FA to beef up security at the stadium,” he said.

He hoped for improved security in Chipolopolo’s upcoming home matches during the World Cup qualifiers next year.
