Zambian international midfielder Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba will miss the Four Nations tournament in Malawi this month, which runs from the 18th to the 26th.
The tournament will feature Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe’s senior national teams in Lilongwe.
According to the Football Association of Zambia, it will be used as part of the preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
However, Kampamba, who joined Libyan club Al Nasr from Zesco United last month, suffered a calf muscle injury against Al-Anwar on Friday.
So far, he has appeared in four matches and provided one assist, earning him one man of the match award.
Kampamba: “I am out due to a calf muscle injury”
The 27-year-old attacker has exclusively revealed to BolaNews that he has written to the Chipolopolo team doctor requesting an excuse from the next international friendlies.
“I am out due to a calf muscle injury and I have been given 10 days to see a doctor,” he said. “For now, I am still recovering.”
“I have written and sent my results to the national team doctor to inform him that they should not consider me for the international friendlies coming up,” Kampamba added.
He was part of Avram Grant’s Chipolopolo squad that competed in the 2023 Afcon in Ivory Coast, but he did not play.
Kampamba has not missed a single national team call-up since Grant’s appointment in December 2022, but he has only appeared as an unused substitute in competitive matches, playing only 17 minutes against Cameroon in a 1-1 friendly match in January this year..
Grant is expected to unveil his squad for the four-nation tournament next week, which might possibly face Morocco and Tanzania in World Cup qualifiers on June 5th and 6th, respectively.
