Despite being left out of the final Chipolopolo squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, Nchanga Rangers keeper Victor Chabu insists he is ready to represent his country if called upon.
Chabu was named to Avram Grant’s 27-man provisional squad for back-to-back games against Morocco and Tanzania but did not make the final cut.
With the 2024 Cosafa Cup tournament set to begin on June 26th, 2024, in Durban, Chabu will be excited to be a part of the team that will attempt to defend the regional title.
“I will treat the Cosafa call-up like any other call-up; all I do is just wait for a chance, and if I am given a chance, I will go and work,” Chabu told BolaNews in an exclusive interview. “I was born ready and am looking forward to the call-up.”
The Nchanga Rangers shot-stopper had a fantastic season, appearing in 31 games and keeping 19 clean sheets.
Chabu led Nchanga Rangers to the 2024 Absa Cup semi-finals and was also crucial in their promotion to the Super League after winning the National Division One League.
Last year, when Zambia won the Cosafa Cup for the seventh time, he was also a member of the squad but was an unused substitute throughout the tournament.
Zambia is in Group B with Comoros, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. They will begin their title defense with a match against Kenya.
