Zambian winger Edward Chilufya will miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Chilufya sustained a knee injury during the latest training camp with the Chipolopolo Boys, his Danish club Midtjylland confirmed on Monday.
“The 26-year-old offensive player will not be ready in 2025 but is expected to be available again during pre-season in the new year,” the club stated.
Chilufya played a key role in Zambia’s AFCON qualifying campaign and made his tournament debut in the last edition, where the Chipolopolo failed to progress past the group stage following 1-1 draws with DR Congo and Tanzania, before a 1-0 loss to Morocco.
Zambia is scheduled to face South Africa and Burundi in friendlies on November 14 and 18, respectively, as part of preparations ahead of the tournament.
The Chipolopolo Boys are drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Comoros, and Mali. They will open their 2025 AFCON campaign on Monday, December 22, against Mali at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
