Zambia national team midfielder Benson Sakala has officially announced his departure from Czech Republic side FK Mladá Boleslav, bringing an end to a memorable stint with the club. The 27-year-old is set to leave when his current contract expires at the end of June 2025.
Sakala, who joined Boleslav as a free agent in July 2023 from 1.FK Příbram, took to social media to express gratitude to the club and its supporters for the role they played in his European journey.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank FK Mladá Boleslav for the opportunity I had to grow my career at this great club,” Sakala posted. “I will carry within me some great memories having played in the league and going all the way through to the Europa Conference League group stage. It was a wonderful experience.”
The former Power Dynamos midfielder also acknowledged the club’s backroom staff and teammates for their support during his time in the Czech First League.
“Thanks to the management, the technical bench and fellow players for the support throughout my journey with the club. FK Mladá Boleslav, wishing you the very best for the future.”
Sakala’s European chapter began in 2021 when he signed with FK Viktoria Žižkov. He later moved to Příbram in 2022 before earning a switch to Boleslav the following year. His steady rise through the Czech football ranks saw him become a key figure, and his contributions helped Boleslav reach European competition in the 2023/24 season.
What’s next for Sakala?
While Sakala’s next destination remains unclear, his imminent free agency opens doors for new possibilities, including a potential move elsewhere in Europe or a return to the African continent.
Back home, Sakala has also been included in coach Avram Grant’s 25-man provisional Chipolopolo squad for the upcoming FIFA international window in June.
Zambia is set to face Sudan and Tunisia in friendly matches as part of preparations for future competitive fixtures.
