Kenya Men’s National team head coach Benny McCarthy says it was not easy to defeat Zambia in the final Group A match of the African Nations Championship.
The Harambee Stars beat Zambia 1-0 on Sunday to finish top of the group with three wins and one draw.
Kenya secured a place in the knockout stages of the competition with their unbeaten run in the group stages.
The tournament hosts put up an outstanding performance as they only conceded one goal in their four matches played.
Speaking to journalists in a post-match interview, McCarthy said that it was not easy to beat Zambia.
He added “This has been as a result of hard work, and we must remain focused ahead of the quarterfinal stage,” he said.
“Zambia was stubborn; they defended and played very well. We scored one goal, yet we would have liked them to be more,” explained McCarthy.
Kenya is in their debut appearance at the tournament, will be looking forward to lifting their very first CHAN trophy.
The Harambee Stars will face Madagascar in the quarterfinals of the CHAN Championship.
