A 4-0 victory over Comoros in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers was a significant achievement for Malawi, and each player will be rewarded with K1 million (approximately $600 USD).
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will provide the reward, which is expected to serve as a motivational boost as Malawi prepares to regroup tomorrow ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
FAM vice president Madalitso Kuyera told Bola News that the decision was made to uplift the players’ morale and send a clear message that they will be rewarded for continued strong performances.
“As you know, the president [Fleetwood Haiya] is in Cairo, so after our victory against the Comoros, I called him to inform him of what had happened back home.
“The president thought it wise to reward players for their performance and I can confirm with you that we have settled to reward each player with K1 million,” he said.
Players receive MWK 500,000 as a bonus for a win in Cosafa and Chan games, plus friendlies. Asked if this means that each player will receive MWK1.5 plus the bonus, Kuyera clarified: “So, the total sum is K1 million, meaning to say instead of them receiving K500 000 as bonus, this time around they will receive K1 million.”
Malawi won 4-0 on aggregate against Comoros last week and will face South Africa in the second playoffs, who knocked out Egypt 3-1 on aggregate.
