Chipolopolo assistant coach Moses Sichone says the team is focused and ready for battle in tomorrow’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) match against record title holder the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The tournament started at the weekend, but Zambia has had to wait until tomorrow before they can get on the battlefield. Their opponent, DRC, has already played one match.

“The guys look prepared; we are looking forward to it. We know after losing the first match, Congo are prepared to win against us. This is the message that we are making sure that everyone knows, and we are preparing,” Sichone told FAZ media.

Zambia, which has never been eliminated at the group stage of a CHAN tournament, will be looking to make a decent start to the tournament.

“It is going to be an interesting game, so we are looking forward to it. If I remember history very well, whenever Zambia plays Congo, it has always been a fight. They are our brothers, but we are looking forward to the game.”

Sichone also pointed to the blend of youth and experience in the squad and the players’ ambition to go further than ever before.

“The most important thing, this is a young team mixed with senior players. The most important thing is to look at what we are here for.

“The best CHAN we have played is reaching the quarterfinals [third place play off]. Every player is looking forward to us reaching the finals,” he said.
