Rivers United head coach Finidi George remains optimistic ahead of his side’s upcoming CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Zambian champions Power Dynamos.
Power Dynamos and Rivers United will face off in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage Matchday Three on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Both teams have endured a poor start to the campaign and are still searching for their first win after losing their opening two matches.
The Nigerian outfit will be looking to translate their strong domestic form onto the continental stage, having topped their league table with 41 points.
Meanwhile, Power Dynamos will be eager to capitalise on home advantage as they target their first victory of the campaign.
Speaking to the club’s media, Finidi George said his team must adopt a stronger mentality ahead of the encounter.
“We can’t compare the league and the continent because the mindset has to change. Even in the FA Cup you don’t see that intensity,” he said.
“The matchday two fixture on the continent we did well, but lost concentration toward the end, which we paid for. We have to motivate the players when the time comes.”
Goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya also expressed confidence that the team would secure a positive result.
“Definitely we will get a good result in the game against Power Dynamos. We will also beat them here in Uyo and move up on the group table,” expressed the shotstopper.
A win for either side would significantly boost their chances of progressing further in the competition.
