Zesco United will host Kaizer Chiefs in their CAF Confederations Cup matchday three at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.
The two teams are in desperate need of their first victory of the CAF Confederations Cup campaign.
So far in the competition, the South African giants have managed to record one draw and one defeat, while Zesco United have recorded two defeats and currently sit at the bottom of the table.
Ahead of the must win tie, Zesco United Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Mutafu believes Zega Mambo have what it takes to extend their supremacy against Kaizer Chiefs.
Both teams last met in the playoff round of the 2018/19 CAF Confederations Cup, with Zesco United winning 3-1 at Levy Mwanawasa stadium following a 2-1 defeat in South Africa. Zesco United went on to win the tie on penalties to progress.
Speaking in an interview on ZNBC’s Kwacha Good Morning program, Mutafu expressed confidence in the team’s chances of completing a double.
“Kaizer Chiefs, I think, has been the customer of Zesco. We can do a double, because what we need to do is win them home and away so that we are back in the race,” said Mutafu.
The two sides will play the return leg in a week’s time in South Africa. A win for either side will revive their chances of progressing further in the competition.
“They are very bitter. Zesco has the character to turn the tables against Kaizer Chiefs. So I’m just appealing to the fans to come in numbers,” added the CEO.
