Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa has said his players prepared well and are ready for their CAF Champions League group opener against RS Berkane.
The Zambian champions begin their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League group-stage campaign away from home, as they face Moroccan giants RS Berkane on Saturday.
Power Dynamos secured their first-ever spot in the group stages after eliminating Uganda’s Vipers SC in the preliminary round.
This marks Power Dynamos’ debut appearance in the CAF Champions League group stage and the first time a Zambian club has reached this phase since 2020.
Speaking to the club’s media before the team departed for Morocco, Mutapa said that his side is determined to pick up positive results despite Berkane enjoying top form in home games.
“The results are a motivation of what we got against Vipers and Asec. Vipers had not lost a game for quite a long time, I think ten previous games at home. We made the result there. So football is what you put in and how much you want it.
“So, yes, they have been home minus a loss, but we’re a team that is on a mission to go and try and get a result.”
The former Nkwazi coach also confirmed that the team will be without two key players but remains confident in the squad’s depth.
“We have nearly all the players apart from Samuel Bamidele and Ishmael Ankobo, who have injuries, so the two are not part of the travelling party, but I still feel we have enough human resources to go and do the job,” noted Mutapa.
Meanwhile, the Zambian champions will be aiming to kick off their group-stage campaign on a positive note in their historic debut.
