Zambian Champions Red Arrows have qualified to the next round of the CAF Champions league following a 3-2 aggregate score over over Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi.
Arrows went into this afternoon’s match at Lusaka’s National Heroes stadium looking to overturn the 2-1 loss suffered to Bullets in the first leg played in Lilongwe, a week ago.
The first half ended goalles with both sides taking a cautious approach but it was the home side that made inroads in the visitors area but all efforts yielded no goal for Arrows.
Arrows kept applying pressure to the unyielding visitors during the second stanza, and when Ricky Banda was taken down in the box, Red Arrows were awarded a penalty.
Team Captain Saddam Yusuf Phiri converted the spot kick in the 65th minute to give Arrows an all important that that they needed to revive their aspirations to progress to the next stage of the continental competition.
The Chisi Mbewe drilled side did not stop from searching for a second goal that would seal the needed victory in regulation time.
Paul Katema ensured that the match did not go into extra time when he slotted home a decider in the 85th minute to send a sizable crowd at the 60-000 seater capacity stadium into wild celebrations.
Dynamos FC eliminate Zesco United
With this victory secured, Red Arrows will now meet TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next round of the CAF Champions league competition.
In the meantime, Dynamos FC of Zimbabwe has eliminated Zambia’s envoys in the CAF Confederation Cup, Zesco United, after the game at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium ended goalless.
