Tanzania’s President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has fulfilled her promise of awarding Simba Sports Club TSh 5 million ($1,968 or K46,000) for each goal they scored against Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy FC in their final CAF Champions’ League group match.
The 22-time Tanzanian Premier League champions did not take the president’s pledge lightly as they subjected Galaxy FC to a 6-0 thrashing on Saturday.
Simba SC only needed a win to progress to the quarterfinals ahead of 2022–23 finalists Wydad Casablanca. However, the Tanzanian giants decided not only to put on a show for their home crowd but also to rack up as many goals as possible with a hefty cash prize at their disposal.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 7th minute through Saidi Ntibazonkiza before doubling their lead courtesy of Pa Omar Jobe’s 14th-minute goal.
Simba SC commanded a 3-0 lead after just 23 minutes when Clatous Chama wiggled past multiple defenders to set up Denis Kibu.
Eventually, Chipolopolo star Clatous Chama made it 4-0 to Simba SC after 76 minutes of play. The midfielder’s clinic saw him register the most shots (6), chances created (6), and successful dribbles (4) in the match.
Ladaki Juma and Fabrice Ngoma added the cherry on the cake as Simba SC ran out 6-0 winners against Galaxy FC.

Simba SC’s dominant display and goalscoring fiesta saw them amass a total of TSh 30 million (K277,000) from Tanzania’s President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Following Simba’s 6-0 win against Galaxy FC, president Samia wrote, “Congratulations to Simba Club for successfully qualifying for the quarterfinals of the African Champions League. Your success is not only joy and pride for the fans and members of Simba, but also for the nation and all Tanzanians.”
