Turkish Women’s League Champions Beskitas have expressed interest in signing Copper Queens and Elite Ladies FC winger Mapepa.
According to a statement by Elite Ladies club, they have received an official offer bid for the speedy winger, and talks are presently underway.
“The Elite Ladies F.C. have received an official offer for Xiomara Mapepa From Turkish Champions Besiktas women’s football team,” read the club statement.
The club has additionally stated that the two parties are in negotiations and that the choice will be made in the player’s and the club’s best interests.
“The two clubs are in talks and once a final position is reached, we shall update you all. The decision made will be based on the best interest of both the player and the club.”
Mapepa initially caught the attention of Swedish club, Djurgarden IF, in August of this year. They invited her for trails in Stockholm for a week, but a deal never materialized as she returned to Zambia.
She could join Martha Tembo, Ireen Lungu, Hellen Chanda, Hellen Mubanga, Barbara Banda, Misozi Zulu, Hazel Nali, Natasha Witika, Margaret Belemu, Rachael Kundananji, Rachael Nachula, and Grace Chanda as the 13th female player from Zambia to play abroad now that the Turkish club has made an official offer that her club will undoubtedly not reject.
Mapepa was the 2022 Zambia women’s Super League top scorer after scoring 17 goals, and she was also part of the Copper Queens team that stormed the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semifinals for the first time and booked a ticket for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which is set to be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia from the 23rd of July to the 20th of August.
