Malawi’s Flames have started well in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) final qualifying round, first leg match defeating South Africa on Saturday in Lilongwe.
The two teams will face off again in the second leg next week at Loftus Stadium in South Africa next Sunday.
The Flames who had a good game struggled to find the back of the net despite dominating play. The home side struggled to score despite creating scoring opportunities.
In the second half, head coach Kalisto Pasuwa made changes taking out Katinji and holding midfielder Yankho Singo for Olson Kanjira and Chawanangwa Gumbo.
Wisdom Mpinganjira took charge of the set piece in the 86th minute, which met Nkhoma’s head who connected it the net to give Malawi a lead.
It was game over to the delight of Pasuwa: “I am with the boys that we have won the match. I must thank the boys who worked tirelessly to get the win. We will go back and try to address our weaknesses ahead of the second leg.”
