Kelvin Kaindu started his Highlanders reign with a 2-1 win over Dynamos in the Battle of Zimbabwe derby.
The former Zanaco FC coach laid a marker with this statement win over rivals Dynamos at Barbourfieds on Sunday afternoon.
Man-of-the-match Melikhaya Ncube’s first-half beauty and a fine finish by Archford Faira were all that Bosso needed to start their season on a good note.
Dynamos got their consolation through the boot of Alexandar Mandinyenya.
In reaction to the result, Kaindu thanked the fans for turning out in large numbers to support the team and stated that his team will need to put the result behind them and focus on maintaining their winning start to the 2024 Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League season.
“I am happy that, as Highlanders, we have managed to pick up three points. It was a tough match against a very good team,” said Kaindu.
“Our game plan worked very well, and credit goes to the boys. It was a very good all-round display by the team.”
Kaindu, who had earlier told BolaNews that the derby was one of the biggest clashes on the continent, was ecstatic.
“I am feeling happy to have won one of the biggest battles in Africa,” he said. “The three points will go a long way in giving the boys the much-needed confidence going forward.”
Highlanders now sit in the 3rd position with 3 points, with Simba Bhora and Green Fuel sitting in the 1st and 2nd positions, respectively, with 3 points.
