Newly signed African Stars football Club defender Joseph Lungu has revealed his CAF Champions League ambitions for the upcoming 2023/23 season.
The Namibian champions have added a number of players, including Lungu, to their squad in preparation for the forthcoming campaign.
In an interview with BolaNews, Lungu claimed that thanks to his participation in the team’s preseason friendlies, he has so far adapted to the needs of the club.
Lungu states that it was not difficult to settle at African Stars because of the similarities between Zambian and Namibian football. “I’m already absorbing the club’s ideology,” he declared.
“It has not been bad here, I have settled in so well, the teammates are helping. The Namibian and Zambian leagues are not so different.
He has revealed that he is aiming to win trophies with his new side.
“African Stars is a club that is ambitious, coming here, I will work with the club and players because my target is to win trophies with the club. “When I leave the club, I want to leave a good impression”
Lungu tells BolaNews that he is anticipating a tough CAF Champions League tie against Power Dynamos later this month.
He says the club’s target is to reach the group stages, adding that it is a plus to face a ‘familiar foe’ Power Dynamos in the preliminary round.
“Power Dynamos is a big team in Zambia,” stated Lungu.
“Playing with Power Dynamos in the CAF Champions League is a plus as I will be facing the players that I have played against in the Zambian league. According to Lungu, Power Dynamos is a significant team in Zambia while African Stars is a significant team in Namibia.
“It will be a different ball game [against Power] because the level is beyond the domestic level, it is high-level football.”
With some CAF Champions League experience with Red Arrows, the left-back is confident African Stars FC can make it to the group stages.
“I’m here to try and help African Stars reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League. This season it will be a dream come true for the club to reach the group stages, we will be a surprise package this season by reaching the group stage,” Lungu stated.
“I have participated in the CAF Champions League with Red Arrows; I have a feel of what it is to play in the Champions League. It is not easy, so we will need to prepare ourselves adequately for it.”
