Former Chipolopolo defender Hichani Himonde has urged Zambian representatives Power Dynamos and Zesco United to approach their CAF interclub group-stage campaigns with confidence and self-belief as they face some of the continent’s strongest sides later this month.
In the CAF Champions League, Power Dynamos have been drawn in Group A alongside defending champions Pyramids (Egypt), RS Berkane (Morocco), and Rivers United (Nigeria).
While Zesco United will compete in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup with Zamalek (Egypt), Al Masry (Egypt), and Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa).
The group stages will begin on the weekend of 21–23 November. The matches will resume after the 2025 AfCON from 23–25 January 2026.
In an interview, Himonde — who played for both Zesco and Power Dynamos during his career — said the two teams must trust their abilities and fight for both club and country.
“They should play with confidence, like they have been doing in the previous games, and avoid conceding too many goals,” Himonde said. “I think they should believe more in themselves and as a team because it wasn’t easy for them to qualify. They should fight harder for their clubs and for the country, because we believe in them.”
He added that Zambia’s representatives have what it takes to compete at this level if they maintain focus, discipline, and teamwork throughout the campaign.
