Malawi caretaker coach Patrick Mabedi has disclosed that four teams are interested to have him as head coach following an impressive performance with the Flames at the just-ended Cosafa Cup.
In an exclusive interview with Bolanews in Malawi, Mabedi who did not name the teams said despite the persuasion, his focus is on the Flames.
“My dream is to coach in Europe just like any other coach,” he said. “But I pray to God to help me in making the right decision.”
Asked about the names of those teams, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach refused to name them but said, “some of these teams are based in Ireland. They were ready with the contract when I was in South Africa. They want me as head coach, four teams have shown interest, they are calling me almost every day.”
The coach said he will make a decision soon on where he is going but the priority for now is to coach the Flames.
“I need to consider who has brought me this far. It is the FA [Football Association of Malawi] that has made me be here. Also, I need to think about the future of those players. So, despite that others are interested but it is the FA that have powers for now,” he said.
Should Mabedi be given a permanent deal as Flames coach?
He was given a caretaker role up to September this year when Malawi will finish their group D match against Guinea at Bingu National Stadium in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He replaced Mario Marinica whose contract was not renewed following a poor performance of the team.
Since Mabedi took charge in May this year, he has yet to taste defeat in a 90 minutes match.
His first game was a friendly away to Mozambique which ended one-all. He also drew 0-0 with Ethiopia in the Afcon qualifiers.
