Zambia’s two representatives to the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup, according to former Kabwe Warriors coach Mohammed Fathi, are not prepared for the competitions.
In 2021, Fathi led NAPSA Stars to the CAF Confederation Cup, even though the team lost in the group stage.
According to the coach, who was born in Egypt, the two teams have not adequately prepared to put on a strong continental football show.
Speaking in a telephone interview on ZNBC’s Radio 4 sports program, Fathi highlighted the importance of playing more friendly matches.
“They have to try hard, they have to prepare; they are not facing easy opponents. The two teams should prepare well. I didn’t see both teams prepare adequately during pre-season, as in playing friendly games crossing borders,” he said.
“It would have been better to play teams in Zimbabwe because the teams are fit and the league is good. We hope the two teams the best, but the question is on preparations,” expressed Fathi.
Dynamos will play Ivorian team ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League, while Zesco United will play Gabonese team FC 105 in the Confederation Cup.
In Continental football, the two teams will be hoping to assist Zambia in regaining the two spots they lost.
