In order to fill the vacancy of Flames head coach, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is requesting financial assistance from their government.
Last month, FAM sacked coach Patrick Mabedi and brought in Zimbabwean tactician Kalisto Pasuwa to lead the team in the remaining Africa Cup of Nations matches.
On Monday, Pasuwa led the Flames to a 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso, marking the end of his interim role.
Pasuwa stated that FAM is in the best position to remark, but he declined to clarify whether FAM had approached him about a permanent deal.
FAM president Fleetwood Haiya said his office is engaging the government on plans to find Mabedi’s replacement.
In response to a question on whether FAM intends to keep Pasuwa, Haiya stated that it is too soon to speak and that Pasuwa and his group should be given some time.
According to Haiya, Malawi is still in the running to make it to the World Cup, thus they are requesting that the government promptly hire a coach.
Since then, football analyst Kimu Kamau has urged FAM to keep Pasuwa and his squad in place, claiming that doing so will enable the Flames to compete rather than just play.
“We have seen what they have achieved in just one week. FAM can even engage them on a temporary basis if the coaches are not willing since they have a team which they are coaching. Otherwise, we need a coach as soon as possible,” he said.
