Nyamilandu, who has been FAM president for 19 years, has said the time has come for Malawi football to witness a wave of change, hence the plan to introduce VAR.

Nyamilandu says he will discuss how to help his dream come true with his partners as he launches his ‘Bridging the Gap’ manifesto.

“I promise what I can manage to deliver; I have no fear and this will become reality. We will start using VAR during profile matches,” said Nyamilandu.

In his manifesto, which was launched on Thursday this week, Nyamilandu has made a lot of promises and asked affiliates to vote for him.

Some of the promises are to move FAM offices from Blantyre to the capital city, Lilongwe, build a five-star hotel and a modern 40 000-capacity stadium in Blantyre, and install electronic and online ticketing.

Nyamilandu is facing stiff opposition from football stakeholders who believe he has failed in his 19-year reign.

He will battle in the ballot box with Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Fleetwood Haiya, who is also vying for the seat.

Haiya scooped five nominations against Nyamilandu’s three, an indication that gives the incumbent a tough time if he wants to win this time.

Haiya has also made many promises, among them transparency in the running of football in Malawi.

“I have what it takes to lead the game; I will develop the game in just a few years and Malawians should believe me,” he said when delivering his 15 goals for developing the game on Saturday.
