At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre yesterday, the Super League match between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and the dominant Silver Strikers of Lilongwe was dramatic.

During the game, which Wanderers won 1-0 in the 46th minute on a goal by midfielder Francis Mkonda, the Silver Strikers, who were the visiting side, were issued four red cards.

Their technical bench received three red cards on consecutive occasions for objecting to the referee’s rulings.

Second assistant coach Peter Mgangira, head coach Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh, and goalkeeper trainer Sibusiso Padambo were the first to receive matching orders.

Their defender Nickson Mwase received his last caution for headbutting Wanderers attacker Chiukepo Msowoya.

“I did nothing to deserve the red card”-De Jongh.

There was tension as a result of the decisions made by referee Mayamiko Kanjere. The decision to send him to the stands was deemed to be personal by the previous manager of Somalia and Platinum, De Jongh, during the post-match interviews.

“The whole stadium saw that I did nothing to deserve the red card. This is personal. It’s a big shame. Maybe it’s time to go and say bye to everyone and go to another country,” he complained.

After the match, De Jongh said his team had a good play, creating chances but it was difficult to play.
