Chisi Mbewe reacts to Red Arrows reaching CECAFA finals

Red Arrows Football Club, the reigning Zambian Super League Champions advanced to the CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup 2024 finals.

Red Arrows became the first football club from Zambia to make it to the CECAFA Club Cup final with their victory in the semifinal.

This was after beating Sudanese side Hay Al Wadi football Club 2 – 0, on Friday in Tanzania. Arrows will clash with APR FC of Rwanda in the final match, who edged out Sudanese Champions Al Hilal of Sudan 5 – 4 on post-match penalties in the other semi-final.

Al Wadi FC controlled the match in the second half but neither team looked likely to break the deadlock in regulation time, sending the match into extra-time.

But Red Arrows took control of the proceedings to avoid penalties. Midfielder Paul Katema broke the clinched the opener in the 112′ benefitting from an assist Anthony Shipanuka.

Match of the match, Alassane Diarra doubled the lead three minutes later after receiving a great pass from Shipanuka inside the box.

“This was not an easy match, but we played our hearts out and made it to the final,” Diarra said.

And in a post-match interview, Arrows Head Coach Chisi Mbewe said he was happy with the result and reaching the finals.

“The team kept the objective of the pre-season alongside the tournament. We are also going to continue pushing the players to attain full fitness ahead of the Super League and the CAF Champions League”

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, Red Arrows and APR FC will square off in the championship match at the KMC Stadium in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
