Zambia were held to a 0-0 draw by Comoros in their second match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), leaving the Chipolopolo Boys winless at the tournament since 2012.

The match was tightly contested, and 19 minutes in, Comoros thought they had taken the lead through Myziane Maolida. However, after a VAR review, the referee ruled out the goal for a foul by Yacine Bourhane on Owen Tembo in the build-up.

Zambia created a number of chances, with Patson Daka coming close, but his header drifted wide. Neither side could find a winner by full time, leaving Zambia on two points following their 1-1 draw with Mali in the opener, while Comoros picked up their first point after a 2-0 defeat in their opening match.

Sichone disappointed

Speaking after the game, Zambia coach Moses Sichone expressed disappointment with his side’s performance.

“I would say maybe first of all, our wingers were completely flat. I didn’t like the way we missed chances. So after the first half we tried to talk to them. So at least in the second half, they improved,” Sichone said.

Zambia will face Morocco in their final Group A match, a must-win encounter for the Chipolopolo Boys. Asked about the fixture, Sichone said:“We are yet to play against Morocco, so we still have two days to prepare for Morocco. We know, like I said, Morocco are the hosts and they are the toughest in the group, so we don’t know what the outcome will be this evening [against Mali]. So we will start preparing for Morocco, and then when we play Morocco, that’s when we will know the outcome.”

Meanwhile, Mali also came from behind to draw 1-1 with Morocco, leaving the Group A top spot wide open. Morocco remains top of the group with four points, while Zambia and Mali are level on two points each, and Comoros sits bottom with one point.
