The Zambia U-20 National Team have been eliminated from the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Tunisia.

Jebral Othman opened the scoring for Tunisia in the 30th minute before Kingstone Mutandwa equalized in the 57th minute.

It did not take long for Tunisia to restore their lead when Mohammed Dhaoui scored in the 58th minute.

It was Zambia’s second defeat in the competition, as they finished rock bottom of the group with just a point.

The Young Chipolopolo began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Benin and lost 2-0 to The Gambia.

Zambia who won the tournament in 2017 will now miss out on the 2023 Indonesia U-20 World Cup.

They previously qualified for the World Cup three times: in 1999, 2007, and 2017 and their dream for a fourth appearance has now been shattered.

The Young Chipolopolo bowed out of the competition with only two goals and no player winning a man of the match award.

The World Cup will kick off on 20 May – 11 June 2023. ·
