Morocco’s midfielder Bilal El Khannouss says his team will have no excuse not to win the Africa Cup of Nations trophy on home soil.
Morocco will kick-start their campaign on 21st January, facing Comoros in the opening match of the competition.
The Atlas Lions will be aiming to secure their second AFCON trophy, having last lifted the trophy in 1976.
The tournament hosts were eliminated by South Africa in the knockout stages at the 2023 edition and will be hoping to leverage home-ground advantage to claim their second AFCON title.
Khannouss feels the team has been given an opportunity to stage a strong performance.
“This is the most important competition in Morocco’s history, especially since it will be held in our country. We‘ve everything we need to deliver a good tournament,” he said.
“We are playing at home, so I believe there are no excuses. We will do everything we can together to try and win this title,” added the Stuttgart midfielder, who is having a decent season in the Bundesliga, registering six ball contributions in 12 matches.
Morocco is in Group A alongside Zambia, Mali, and Comoros.
