EXCLUSIVE: Mwansa makes big promise to Zambians ahead of AfCON

Mwansa is one of the 55 players in Avram Grant’s provisional squad that is set to enter a local camp on Tuesday next week.

The 22-year-old custodian, who made his senior national team competitive debut in the 2023 Cosafa Championship semi-final match against South Africa, put in an impressive performance that helped Zambia win 2-1.

He also kept a clean sheet in the final match, which Zambia won 1-0 over Lesotho to win their seventh Cosafa title.

Meanwhile, Mwansa received criticism from fans after conceding two quick goals against Congo Brazzaville in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which the Chipolopolo boys won 3-2.

In an exclusive interview with Bolanews, he said that he has worked hard to correct his mistakes and is ready to prove his critics wrong.

“Looking at the criticism, I learned something in the last game against Congo Brazzaville. Since that day, I have been working on those mistakes and I am sure that in the upcoming matches, I will prove to the world that I am not the same Francis they saw in that game against Congo.”

Mwansa is confident of making the final AfCON squad.

Mwansa is optimistic about making it to the final roster for the AfCON.

“My preparation is very good and I am looking forward to that final group. I am sure that as long as I keep working hard, the coach is going to select me for the final squad because of the chances he gave me previously. I am sure I proved that I can play so I don’t have pressure, but I just have to work hard.”

Mwansa has only appeared in five games this season, managing to keep one clean sheet for Green Buffaloes.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper joined Green Buffaloes at the beginning of the 2023–24 season from Trident FC, where he helped them win promotion to the Super League.
