DR Congo head coach Sebastian Desabre has expressed satisfaction with his side’s 2-0 victory over Zambia in an international friendly played on Tuesday, describing the match as a valuable opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Goals from Arthur Masuaku and Rocky Kiranga sealed the win for the Leopards against the Chipolopolo Boys, with both teams using the fixture to fine-tune preparations for the continental showpiece.
Speaking after the match, Desabre said his players approached the contest with full commitment, underlining the importance of building momentum heading into the tournament.
“We play 100 percent to make our fans and our country happy,” Desabre said. “It’s important to have rhythm and to check some players in different positions. This was a good opportunity for us.”
The Frenchman also acknowledged the logistical challenges faced in the build-up to the friendly, revealing that the late arrival of some players disrupted preparations.
“It’s not easy because FIFA delayed the arrival of our players, and we need to fix that,” he noted.
Despite the challenges, Desabre was encouraged that the match passed without injuries on either side.
“We are happy because there were no injuries for our team and also for the Zambian team,” he said. “We are happy to play Zambia.”
DR Congo will compete in Group D at the Africa Cup of Nations alongside Senegal, Botswana, and Benin, and Desabre believes the friendly has placed his side in good standing as they prepare to open their campaign on Tuesday.
