Italian-based Zambian midfielder Mannah Chiwisa has encouraged his fellow young players to shine and take advantage of every opportunity presented to them during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Zambia will open their Afcon campaign against DR Congo on Wednesday, January 17th, at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro and Chiwisa wants them to shine.

The 20-year-old, who plays for Atlanta FC’s reserve team, was part of Avram Grant’s 30-man squad but did not make it to the final tournament.

Chiwisa was also a member of the U-23 national team that was eliminated from the qualifiers of the 2023 U-23 AFCON by Egypt last year.

In an interview with Bolanews, he urged the team to give it their all because this is an opportunity to advance their careers.

“To the Chipolopolo boys and all the talented young players stepping onto this grand stage, I send my sincere well wishes and prayers,” he said. “This tournament is a golden opportunity for their careers and I believe that with their hardwork, dedication and the right mindset, they will achieve remarkable success together.”

“Leave an indelible mark”- Chiwisa

The former Lusaka Youth Academy midfielder encouraged the young players in the team to seize the opportunity and fight for the country.

“For those making their debut, they just need to embrace the magnitude of this moment; it’s a choice to showcase their extraordinary talents on a bigger tournament stage.

“Each match is an opportunity to leave an indelible mark and I am confident that with their skills and determination, they will make us all proud,” added Chiwisa.

Zambia arrived in San Pedro on Friday after an international training camp in Saudi Arabia

They are in Group F with Tanzania and Morocco, as well as the DR Congo.
