Zambia senior men’s team head coach Avram Grant has challenged the Zambia Under-17 men’s team to secure a historic qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The Junior Chipolopolo, drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Tanzania, and Uganda, will kick off their campaign today against Tanzania.
Head coach Ian Bakala aims to lead the team beyond the group stages for the first time and ultimately clinch a spot in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Morocco made a strong start to the tournament, dominating Uganda with a 5-0 victory to top the table.
Ahead of their opening match, Grant and several Chipolopolo stars shared words of encouragement with the squad in Morocco.
Grant emphasized the importance of giving their all to achieve their goal.
“There is a big mission in front of you: to qualify for the World Cup. It is something that we will not forget, and so I want to congratulate and wish coach Bakala and all the team all the best. Give your best, and I wish you all the best,” Grant said.
Chipolopolo midfielder Miguel Chaiwa also urged the players to stay focused on their World Cup dream.
“I’m happy for you guys. Make us proud and go all the way to the World Cup. Stay disciplined and humble; we are together,” Chaiwa said.
Meanwhile, winger Joseph Sabobo Banda encouraged the team to approach every match with confidence.
“Let’s go, let’s take them on without fear,” he stated.
