FC Muza goalkeeper Jairos Tembo has revealed that his team is aiming to win the ABSA Cup, which they lost last year in the final.
The Mazabuka-based Super League club finished as runners-up last year after losing 2-0 to Forest Rangers at the Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.
Muza will face Power Dynamos in the quarterfinal of this year’s edition in their quest for their first title.
Despite starting the season as a second-choice goalkeeper, Tembo has kept seven clean sheets in eleven games.
During the 2021/22 season, he kept 18 clean sheets in 29 matches for Muza to help them qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time.
Tembo who made his season debut on September 9, 2023, against Red Arrows told Bolanews, that his main goal this season is to maintain his top form.
“My first target is to just be in top form this season. Having clean sheets is very difficult, but hard work and the objectives of the team always come first,” he said.
Tembo believes the team has been inspired by their CAF Confederation Cup appearance and is ready to win their first championship.
“Continental football motivated me and the entire team, just like the ABSA Cup.
“Like we played the final last time, it was very painful that we lost in the finals, but we are looking forward to amending and winning the ABSA Cup this year,” he concluded.
