Christopher Lungu, Barotse Crocs head coach, has fired warning shots at Zesco United ahead of their round-of-16 clash in the 2024 ABSA Cup tournament.

On Sunday, Barotse Crocs defeated Young Kansanshi Dynamos 1-0 to advance to the next phase of the expanded ABSA Cup at Lusaka’s Sunset Stadium.

The Crocs qualified for this year’s ABSA Cup as Western province log leaders in week 15 and are participating for the first time.

This year’s ABSA Cup has featured 21 teams from eight teams, including all Provincial League clubs, with sponsorship increased to K5.5 million from K4.4 million.

The new format included seven clubs from the Super League, four from the National League, and ten provincial champions.

Barotse Crocs will face Zesco United in the round of 16 on Saturday, with the venue yet to be determined.

After Sunday’s win over Kansanshi, Lungu told reporters that his team was ready to turn the tables.

“Looking at Zesco United, it’s a big team,” he said. “But looking at my team, this is a tournament and it’s a competition. We will go and compete.”

Lungu added, “Football is played in both ways; no wonder It’s round; anyone can win the game. We can go as far as we can.”

The quarterfinals will be played on the Copperbelt on May 13 and 14, with the semifinals taking place in Lusaka on May 27 and 28, and the final on May 7th, 2024.
