In December last year, Collins Mbesuma, 38, was appointed as strikers coach for South African National First Division side Pretoria Callies.

Since his appointment, Callies have scored 12 goals in 11 matches, winning 5, drawing 4, and only losing twice.

This has earned him accolades from the club’s head coach Kwanele Kopo who has described his impact as positive.

Kopo is happy that Mbesuma is settling well at the club in his new role.

“Collins has been working with the attackers a lot. We gave him time to work with strikers and he has done well,” Kopo was quoted by farpost.co.za. “Pretoria Caillies is way bigger than me so Collins has definitely contributed positively.”

He also revealed that the former Kaizer Chiefs striker cannot sit on the bench as he is still waiting for his work permit.

“Unfortunately, he is not able to sit on the bench because his work permit is taking long.”

Caillies are now placed ninth in the National First Division with 27 points from 22 games played so far.

Mbesuma who has just begun his coaching career still holds the record for the most goals scored in a season in the South Africa league. He scored 25 goals during the 2004/05 season for Kaizer Chiefs.

The Zambian International also had a short stint at English side Portsmouth and he is expected to use his experience in nurturing young strikers at the club.
