Zesco United FC coach Numba Mumamba has said his strikers were not “clinical in front of goal” that’s why they failed to beat South Africa’s Royal AM in Sunday’s first leg match of the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary second round.
He has said his team will now seek redemption when they play the return leg this Saturday at home in Ndola at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Our greatest concern is the striking force because we have created a lot of chances, but we are failing to get the goals. We controlled much of the first half of the game although dynamics changed in the second half,
He said
The nine-time Zambian Super League Champions despite having dominated play and creating a lot of scoring chances, failed to bury the game in 90 minutes but opted to share points with the host team.
The Ndola based outfit could have easily walked away with more than three goals but the strikers did not come to the party and lacked clinical finishing in front of goal.
Numba is however comforted that his team did not concede in South Africa.
The soothing part is that we didn’t concede. Otherwise, it would have been better to get a win. We have a lot of work to do. We need to work hard and ensure that we win the return leg.
Zesco who have only scored 4 goals in the 6 Zambian Super League matches played so far this season and sitting in 9th position with 9 points on the log standings, will now be under pressure to avoid defeat or a scoring draw at home if they are to proceed to the next round of the Confederations Cup.
They are Zambia’s only representative in any of CAF’s major interclub competitions after Super League Champions Red Arrows were eliminated from the Champions League in the first preliminary round by Angola’s Premioro de Agosto.
