Red Arrows goalkeeper Lucas Mainza says his inclusion in the Chipolopolo Boys squad is a significant step in his football career.
Interim Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina unveiled his squad for Zambia’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Togo later this month.
Mainza is one of four goalkeepers called up, alongside Power Dynamos duo Willard Mwanza and Lawrence Mulenga, as well as Nchanga Rangers’ Victor Chabu.
Zambia will begin their qualifying campaign away to Algeria on September 25 before hosting Togo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on September 29.
“It’s a wonderful thing for me; it’s something that I always prayed for being at the national team and contributing where I can for Mother Zambia,” he told BolaNews.
The Red Arrows shot-stopper vowed to make the fans proud.
“To all the Chipolopolo fans, we promise to give our all to make them happy. Every player that has been selected is ready for the challenge and will put in their best to deliver their best performance.”
Mainza also expressed his respect for the other goalkeepers in the squad as he prepares to compete for the number one spot.
“They are all quality goalkeepers, and I respect them. These are the same goalkeepers who have been there before, and they are doing pretty well. Even if we are competing for the number one spot, the respect I have for them is big,” he said.
