Kansanshi Dynamos Queens Football Club forward Theresa Nayame says she aims to make the Copper Queens’ final squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Nayame is among the 28-member provisional squad that has been summoned to enter camp by head coach Nora Hauptle as Zambia continues to prepare for the continental showpiece.
The striker earned her place in the squad following an impressive showing in the ZPL Women’s National League – North, where she finished as the league’s top scorer with an impressive 17 goals.
Speaking in an interview with BolaNews, Nayame said she was happy to be part of the squad, noting that her exploits were being noticed by the national team technical bench.
She reveals that being part of the squad is an opportunity to show hard work so that she can also make it to the final squad for the WAFCON.
“I’m happy to be part of the squad; it is not easy to be considered among the many players in the country,” she said. “This is an opportunity to show hard work so that I can also fight for a final place. The only way is hard work and listening to the coach’s instructions.”
I am adapting well – Nayame
Nayame acknowledged that national team camps are always competitive, though she noted that it will be easy to adapt as there are some former Under-20 players she played alongside.
“I’m adapting very well because there are some players that I played alongside at the under-20 national team. It is every player’s dream to be called up to the seniors, and most importantly, making the final squad is the end goal,” Nayame said.
Nayame was instrumental in Kansanshi Queens’ campaign last season that resulted in their promotion to the ZPL Women’s Super League.
