Nchanga Rangers goalkeeper Victor Chabu feels the team was unfortunate to lose to Power Dynamos in the quarterfinals of the 2026 ABSA Cup on Sunday afternoon at Nkoloma Stadium.
Rangers suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Dynamos to exit the competition.
Dynamos opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Kenyan striker Moses Shumah, who benefited from a pass by Fredrick Mulambia. Aba Yellow made it 2-0 after defender Dominic Chanda headed in a Prince Mumba cross in the 75th minute to propel Power to the semi-finals.
After conceding the second goal, Chabu, who is also his team’s captain, was substituted and replaced by John Mutale.
Rangers’ assistant coach Israel Mwanza blamed him for the defeat, but Chabu tells BolaNews that “it was not just our day as a team; that’s why we lost.”
He added, “We just made some mistakes, and those mistakes cost us. They capitalised on them, and that’s how they scored and we lost the game.”
Chabu also said singling out an individual to blame for the team’s loss is not right.
“No one is to blame for the loss; it’s the nature of the game. It was not just our day to win. We put the loss behind and focus on the upcoming games. We have not been on a bad side for now; we keep pushing and see how far we can go.”
Rangers have struggled in recent matches, going four games without a win across all competitions. Their attention will now shift to the League, where they currently occupy fourth place with 43 points.
