Chipolopolo Boys’ assistant coach Oswald Mutapa, who is in charge of the team at the Mukuru Four Nations tournament in Botswana, has said despite the team being a youth side, the target is to win.

Zambia will open its campaign against Malawi on Saturday, with the winner facing either Botswana or Zimbabwe on Tuesday next week.

“Yes, we have come with a youth side, but our ambition is to always try to win the game,” Mutapa told a pre-match press conference. “I think we have the young lads who have the hunger to participate and compete.”

“I think for me it’s important that they have the mentality of winning; they have that habit of trying to win every game. That’s what is important. Yes, we understand Malawi is an experienced side; this is more of a derby. These are our neighbours; it will be tough, but we need to give it our all and try and win the game,” added Mutapa.

Meanwhile, Malawi head coach Kalisto Pasuwa stated that his team is fully aware they are playing Zambia, not a weaker version of the side, and emphasised the need to adjust their attitude to secure a good result.

He added that Zambia remains one of the powerhouses in Southern Africa, and his players must stay positive and fight hard to achieve a favourable outcome, noting that it will not be an easy task.
